Newsletter-October 2014

Letter from the Director

The school year is off to a great start!

By the time you read this, we already will have had our school pictures taken and hosted the Traveling Barnyard.

We are really looking forward to this month’s upcoming events: Family Night, Pumpkin Decorating, and Halloween Parades.

On October 24, we will have our Family Night. This is a fun evening for all…a movie, pizza, face painting, and more!

We are asking each child to bring in a pumpkin to decorate for our Halloween parade. The pumpkin can be large or small. We ask that if your child chooses a large one, that he/she be able to carry it. Please be sure to bring your pumpkin to school on October 27 and 28 as they will be decorating them in class. Please check your pumpkin carefully for bruises or soft spots as these usually lead to leaking…YUCK!

On October 30 and 31st we will have our Halloween Parades. The children love to wear their costumes to school, sing fun songs, and dance around their decorated pumpkins. These parades take place at 9:30am in the big hall and last about 15 minutes.

The Halloween parade is lots of fun for some children and for some it can be very scary. Please don’t force your child to wear a costume if he/she doesn’t want to. We accept and appreciate how each child feels. Weapons and masks are not allowed at school. If your child has a costume that comes with either of these things, please leave them at home. If they come to school, we will not allow the children to have them.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Traveling Barnyard Comes to the Co-Op

On October 7 and 8, the Traveling Barnyard visited. The Traveling Barnyard is an interactive educational agriculture display where the children (and lucky volunteering adults) have the opportunity to touch and observe the animals.

Special thanks to Holly Cooper, Risa DiVincenzo, Kathy Hannon, Hilary Miller, and Sylvie Smiley who all helped with clean up.

Letter from the VP of Volunteering

Hi families,

I hope you are having a wonderful fall season!

We’ve had a great number of people volunteering for the classrooms and the teachers and the board truly appreciate it. I have heard so many great stories already from other parents on how much they enjoyed their time volunteering. THANK YOU!

Also a big thank you to those families who were BEE’ing so kind and have donated to the Co-Op from our new Bee Hive!

Please let me know if you are having any difficulty with our online volunteer scheduling!

Thank you!

Letter from the VP of Fundraising

Hello Co-Op Families,

First and foremost, I need to say thank you to all of you who have participated in our Yankee Candle fundraiser! As of right now, we have raised $1,869.60 with Yankee Candle. Remember that the online fundraising remains open through the end of the calendar year, so if you were still getting into the rhythm of the school year and didn’t get around to participating, or if you want to put a reminder out there later in the fall for your friends who do their holiday shopping last-minute, please feel free to continue! If you need a reminder of the information, please don’t hesitate to ask.

The first of our dining night fundraisers is just around the corner on Monday, October 20th. This month is at Papa Gino’s on 110 in Chelmsford. These fundraisers are location specific, so it won’t work at other Papa Gino’s restaurants. Simply bring the flyer with you for the school to receive 20% of your total. Please distribute the flyers to anyone in the area who may use them.

Next month we have a shopping fundraiser rather than dining. Westford Toy Shop is running a week of fundraising November 9-15. This event is extra-special because it benefits both you and the school—you will receive a 10% discount on your purchases, and the school will receive 10% of your total! This one is also great because you don’t need to remember to bring a flyer with you. Simply mention the Co-Op at checkout, and ask your friends and family to do the same.

Also, next Friday, October 24, is our Family Fun Night. We will have pizza, goodies, and popcorn while enjoying face painting, activities, and a showing of The LEGO Movie! The fun starts at 5:00 p.m. and the movie will begin at 6:00 p.m. Please use the online signup form to RSVP so that we can make sure to have enough food and drinks, and be sure to indicate if you will be willing to bring a dessert to share (keeping our nut-free policy in mind). Huge thanks go out to Stacey Robinson for taking the lead on this event!

Thanks so much for your support of the Co-Op!
