Newsletter–November 2014

Letter from the Director

Dear Families,

October was a busy month here at school! The beginning of the month, we were able to visit the Traveling Barnyard. The children got their bodies moving and grooving with Coach Susan during our cardio program. We had a wonderful visit from Mary-Carla MacDonald and her music program. The children had a visit from the Chelmsford Fire Department and got to sit in the Trail truck. And, to top it all off, we celebrated Halloween! Thank you for making our parades so special for the children.

November is looking to be a busy month as well. We will get our bodies moving to cardio, Mr. Rega will be bringing some fun musical instruments for us to explore, and we will celebrate Thanksgiving Co-Op style! We will be hosting a Thanksgiving parade (much like the Halloween parade) on November 25 and 26 at 9:30 a.m. for the parents and, later that morning, the classes will come together in the big hall for a Co-Op feast. Each teacher will be looking for specific food items to be brought in on those days, so keep an eye out for emails and postings.

We will be closed on Friday, November 28

Wednesday November 26th is a HALF DAY FOR FULL DAY CHILDREN. All children will be dismissed at 12.

Please remember to dress your children for the weather as we will go outside, weather permitting, if it is 32 degrees or above. Please label all jackets, hats and mittens!

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving,

Letter from the VP of Volunteering

Dear Parents,

I would like to thank you for making the Bee hive so successful. I’d like to thank the Miller family—I had forgotten to put their name on the list last month. We have had so many donations this month that it was difficult to keep track of them all. We are so grateful and we appreciate each and every donation! Thank you all so much.

Fall Playground Clean-up

Many hands make light and fun work!

We would like to thank all of the parents and children who pitched in to clear the leaves from the playground. Working together, we were able to quickly clean the playground up for fall play.

Thank you to Kathy Hannon, Jen Dodson, Erica Barilla, and Rabindra Barik for helping out!

Letter from the VP of Fundraising

Hello Co-Op Families,

We have had a great start to the year in many ways and fundraising is definitely one of them. Just two months into the school year, we are already 45% of the way to our $7,500 goal for the year!

The Amazon Smile sales have been a big help in our fundraising efforts. So far, we have raised $199.79 through no-effort, no-extra-money-spent fundraising! A few people have recently asked me to explain how it works, so to recap: instead of shopping on Amazon by typing amazon.com into your browser, type in www.centralcoopshop.com. This will automatically redirect you to Amazon’s main page, but with the credit for your purchases coming to the Co-Op. There is also a link on the main Co-Op homepage that you can use. Don’t forget to spread the word—anyone can use this link to shop and help us out. With holiday shopping gearing up, now is the time to post this link on your Facebook pages and email it to your friends and family!

Thanks to those of you who are still sending out our online Yankee Candle fundraising information. We still have orders trickling in. So far, we have raised $2,005.20. Remember that the online orders are open through 12/31, so it’s not too late for holiday shopping. Just use our group number: 99563033 at www.yankeecandlefundraising.com.

Our first dining night fundraiser was a huge success! Thanks to all of you who went to Papa Gino’s. We raised $134.85! The manager who was on duty that night said we did really well. They had a busy night, and more than half of the customers had our flyers. Great job, everyone!

Thanks to all who made Family Fun Night a very fun evening. Huge thanks go out to Stacey Robinson for taking the lead on this event, and to Melissa McDonald for the beautiful face painting! Also, thanks go out to everyone who baked treats—I know there were people who hadn’t signed up on the online form that brought desserts, so in the interest of not leaving anyone out, I won’t list you all. I can thank those who volunteered for greeting, manning the food table, and cleanup even though we had the wonderful surprise of the volunteers from Kohl’s so everyone was able to enjoy the evening with their families. The volunteers were Catherine Cargill, Abbey Ciardi, Risa DiVincenzo, David Howe, Hilary Miller, Tara Purrington, Linda Thistle, and Christoph Strobel. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, Family Fun Night raised $1,059!

This month we have two shopping fundraisers rather than a dining night. Westford Toy Shop is running a week of fundraising November 9–15. This event is extra-special because it benefits both you and the school – you will receive a 10% discount on your purchases, and the school will receive 10% of your total! This one is also great because you don’t need to remember to bring a flyer with you. Simply mention the Co-Op at checkout, and ask your friends and family to do the same. We are also participating in Weston Nurseries’ fundraiser. Shop there between 11/17 and 12/24 with their event flyer, and the Co-Op will receive $10 for each $30 purchase made.

Mark your calendars for our December fundraising activities, as well. We have a dining night at Applebee’s on December 10, and our Scholastic Book Fair will be at the school 12/15–19.

Thanks so much for your continued support of the Co-Op!
